DAY 1 :
CASABLANCA CITY DAY TOUR
Morocco Berber Travel organizes tour from Casablanca with experienced drivers and guides to explore Sahara desert. You will be picked up from your hotel in Casablanca to begin our tour. We will visit the mosque of Hassan II, open to both Muslims and non-Muslims. The mosque was built by King Hassan II, between 1987 and 1993, and shows wonderful examples of Moorish influences in Morocco. Over 25,000 worshippers can pray inside and 80,000 outside in the square in front of the mosque. We will also take a walk along the beach of Casablanca. Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco, linked to the 1942 movie Casablanca, with modern architecture and white building with distinct French art deco influences. We will also visit the main square of La Ligue Arabe, and the Cathedral of Sacré Coeur, which blends Moroccan and European influences. We will stay overnight in our hotel in Casablanca.
DAY 2 :
CASABLANCA - MEKNES
We will travel to Rabat visiting historical sites including Chellah, with its huge octagonal defensive gate. In Rabat we see a breathtaking combination of Roman and Marinid remains. We will see the unfinished mosque tower of Hassan 12th and the mausoleum of Mohamed, built by King Hassan II and dedicated to his father, Mohamed V, for honoring him as the father of the independence. We will walk through Kasbah Oudaya 12th, a beautiful white and blue building with a fantastic view over beach and River Bouragrage. We will continue on our journey to Meknes, a city established by Sultan Moulay Ismael in the 18th century. We will stay overnight in Meknes.
DAY 3 :
MEKNES - VOLUBILIS – FEZ
After breakfast we will explore the Imperial City of Meknes, which has 40 km of ramparts surrounding the Medina, and we will visit the gate of Bab Mansour (1732) and the granary at Sahrij Swani. Meknes has a large production of olives and olive oil and you will see an amazing variety of olives in the local market of Lahdime. Only 30 km from Meknes we will discover Volubilis. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is a partly excavated Roman city where we will enjoy seeing the remains of astonishing mosaics and hundreds of Latin inscriptions. After leaving Volubilis we will continue our way on towards Fez, driving through open fields of barley, wheat and olive trees. We will stay overnight in Fez.
DAY 4 :
FEZ
We will meet our local guide at 9:00 am and set off to explore the medieval Medina of Fez, a labyrinth of more than 9000 alleyways. We will mingle with the locals in these streets which are full of handicrafts being made by artisans using age old methods, vibrant colours and sounds. We will visit the tanneries, to watch the locals working with the skins of animals such as goat, camel and cow. We will get to enjoy wonderful panoramic views from the southern tower of Fez, visit a pottery co-operative where tiles and Moroccan mosaic are made, or you can take an optional dinner show with belly dancing to round off your tour of Fez.
DAY 5 :
FEZ - MIDELT - ERRACHIDIA - MERZOUGA
We will leave Fez and cross the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping for a short break in Ifrane, the site of the first ski resort in Morocco. We will be surrounded by amazing scenery and landscapes of mountains and plains. We may get to see the species of native monkeys, known as Magot monkeys, living in the cedar woods of Azrou. We will stop for lunch in Midelt, a town that celebrates the festival of apples every year at the beginning of October. From Midelt we will travel to Errachidia, named after Prince Moulay Rachid, before driving through Ziz valley to Erfoud, the gate of the Sahara, and on to Merzouga.
DAY 6 :
MERZOUGA SAHARA DESERT
We will have a free day where you have the option of taking a camel ride or a 4 x 4 journey through the desert of Erg Chebbi. You can also experience the local music as you listen to the rhythms of a Gnaoua band and sample a delicious Touareg Pie or Berber Pizza, a local dish which is cooked in the sand. You can also choose to visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chref, the founder of the Erissani dynasty. We will then head back to Merzouga to watch the sunset from the top of sand dunes, reaching up to 150 m, before spending the night in a hotel in Merzouga.
DAY 7 :
MERZOUGA - OUARZAZATE
After breakfast we will leave Merzouga and head towards the oasis of Eljerf, where we can witness the ancient system of irrigation that is still used here. We will stop for photographs at Tinjedad, before having lunch in Toudra Gorge. We will enjoy a 20 minute walk between the cliffs and river in this beautiful 15 km valley with date palms, ending with a spectacular Gorge, mainly used for rock climbing and picnics. We will make our way to Dades Valley with its astonishing rock formation, created by erosion over millions of years. We will pass Rose Valley, the only place in Morocco where Damascus roses are harvested.
DAY 8 :
OUARZAZATE - MARRAKECH
We will drive to Ait Benhaddou where we will take a walk around this fascinating village. Visit the site of many famous movies, including ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Gladiator’. Ait Benhaddou Kasbah is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has been since 1987. After our visit to Ait Benhaddou we will head to the north of the High Atlas, via Tizi n'Tichka, 2260 m high, with its amazing panoramic views of the Berber villages. We will arrive in Marrakech where we will overnight.
DAY 9 :
Marrakech
You will be escorted by a local guide around this beautiful city, visiting historical monuments: the gorgeous Bahia palace built in 19th century, the Saadian tombs a 17th century royal necropolis, the Koranic School of Ben Youssef, and the Koutoubia mosque built in 12th century. You will also visit the famous Souks; a great place for shopping where you can buy presents for your family, friends or yourselves. Relax in the Majorelle Gardens, a peaceful space in the New Town with exotic plants brought from all over the world. You will finish your tour in Jemaa el-Fnaa square with its story tellers, snake charmers, musicians, acrobats and open air food stalls.
DAY 10 :
TRANSFER TO MARRAKECH OR CASABLANCA AIRPORT
